Continuing an end of year visit to Poland, Czech Republic, and Slovakia, the PES President, Sergei Stanishev today (18 December) held meetings in Prague with theCzech Member Party (CSSD). Mr. Stanishev met with CSSD leader Bohuslav Sobotka and with the CSSD Presidential candidate Jiří Dienstbier. He congratulated Mr. Dienstbier for his strong Presidential campaign.

PES Ministers warn against opening the door to an institutionalization of the Troikas PES Social Affairs Ministers today expressed their concern over the risk of an institutionalization of austerity and a tweaking of the EU procedures during the EU Council of 13-14 December, in a letter addressed to European Commission President José Manuel Barroso and to European Council President Herman Van Rompuy.
30/11/2012 PES welcomes the recognition of a Palestinian State at the United Nations
The Party of Europeans Socialists (PES) warmly welcomes the recognition of Palestine as a “non-member observer state” at the United Nations General Assembly. With 138-9 votes in favour, the endorsement of several European States was pivotal in pushing the bid through at the UN. This approval will boost the peace process, reduce current tensions and put an end to the escalation of violence.

(25th November). Dragan Djilaswas elected as new leader of the Serbian Democratic Party (DS). Boris Tadić was appointed Honorary President.

PES calls for European Youth Guarantee to be prioritized. Party of European Socialists (PES) President Sergei Stanishev said that “Our meeting showed that the PES family knows that what we need is an EU budget that responds to the economic crisis. It must allow us to deliver jobs and growth, and ultimately combat poverty and social exclusion. The European budget must be regarded as an investment budget.
