The PES expresses its concern about the recent developments in Kazakhstan, deplores the loss of life and calls on authorities to respect the human rights of citizens and refrain from the use of violence.

PES President Sergei Stanishev said:

“I’m following the situation in Kazakhstan with concern, and regret the eruption of violence and the loss of life. We call for de-escalation and a peaceful resolution using dialogue and respecting the fundamental rights as enshrined in the country's international commitments."

The PES commends High Representative Josep Borrell for his clear declaration on this situation in Kazakhstan. The European Union stands ready to provide assistance for a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
