Vice-President
Kati Piri (1979) has been a member of Parliament for the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA) since March 31, 2021. From 1 July 2014 to 31 March 2021, she was a member of the European Parliament for the PvdA. In particular, Ms Piri served as vice-president of the S&D Group and as a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), with a focus on the rule of law, democracy and human rights. She is mostly known for her role as Turkey-rapporteur and as rapporteur for the Brexit-negotiations on behalf of the S&D Group.
She previously worked for the secretariat of the S&D Group in the European Parliament and for the Wiardi Beckman Foundation. In 2011, she was active as a program manager for South Caucasus and Moldova on behalf of the NIMD, a Dutch institute that supports political parties and democratic movements in young democracies.
In 2020-2021, she was the international secretary of the PvdA. In her current role as vice-chairman of the parliamentary group of the PvdA, she is serving as spokesperson on foreign and European affairs, defense, and asylum and migration.
Kati grew up in Utrecht, studied international relations in Groningen and lives in The Hague.
