SLD, Wiosna and Razem – the three parties of the political left that ran together in the general election in October– will now work as one to advance progressive policies and stand in the way of any abuse of power coming from the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party.
PES President Sergei Stanishev said:
“Unity is the only way forward for the left, in these difficult times, when the authoritarian right is attacking democracy, women’s rights and minorities. We are incredibly strong when we join forces. As the results have proven, the common list of the Polish left was the right choice before the election and this is the right choice for legislative action in the Polish Sejm. The PES will stand by its member party SLD and will support further cooperation between all three parties of the Polish left”.
The three-party grouping puts progressives in Poland in a stronger position to challenge the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, who have undermined the Rule of Law in the country and moved Poland away from core European values.
