The Party of European Socialists warmly welcomes the strong majority obtained by PSC-PSOE in yesterday’s regional election in Catalonia. This result marks a turning point in Catalan and Spanish politics.

PES Secretary General Giacomo Filibeck said:

“I warmly congratulate Salvador Illa and PSC for their strong campaign and their great victory in the election. Citizens have shown their good sense and have trusted PSC to overcome sterile confrontation and build mutual understanding and a fairer more equal society. Enhorabona! I encourage all parties to engage in a constructive dialogue to form a government that works for all Catalans.”

PSC came first in the election this Sunday, obtaining 42 seats, a nine-seat increase relative to the previous election.
