Today, the Party of European Socialists Migration & Integration Network (MIN) gathered in Brussels and was chaired by S&D MEP Ana Catarina Mendes from PS Portugal.

Representatives of PES member parties, members of the European Parliament, and civil society organisations exchanged views on the current state of play of the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum, assessed progress made, and challenges facing it.

MEP Ana Catarina Mendes, chair of the MIN meeting said:

‘‘It is clear that the implementation of the Pact represents both a challenge and an opportunity. The work now underway will determine whether the implementation of the Pact delivers on a coherent, fair, and rights-based Common European Asylum System. The Commission was due to present the European Annual Asylum and Migration Report and propose a Council implementing act and solidarity mechanism, but it missed the deadline—undermining the Pact’s credibility and delaying responsibility sharing. Timely action is essential, and member states must take responsibility to uphold shared rules and solidarity.

Civil society’s continued engagement remains vital to safeguard fundamental rights. Continued dialogue and scrutiny will be essential to steer the Pact towards credibility, solidarity, and respect for the right to asylum.’’
