‘These Turkish and Kurdish young people were socialists – they believed in solidarity between peoples. Acting on those principles, they were in Suruc before they set off to help with the reconstruction of the Syrian town of Kobane. It is nothing short of abominable that they were reportedly the victims of a suicide bomber attack.’
‘I send my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the attack. We must stop these disgusting attacks from happening and from tearing our young people away from their families. Cooperation is urgently needed in the fight against Islamic State extremists. I urge all parties to join forces to combat Islamic State in Turkey and elsewhere in the region.’
PES member CHP President Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu condemned the “insidious” attack in Suruç and immediately sent a delegation of 10 Members of Parliament to the area.
