Currently 18,000 civilians, including 3500 children have no access to shelter, water, food and basic health care. They are trapped under the most horrifying circumstances, facing sustained hostilities and armed violence.
“All armed groups should comply with their obligations to ensure the protection of civilians and unimpeded humanitarian access must be provided immediately” continues Giacomo Filibeck, PES Deputy Secretary-General. “The inhabitants of Yarmouk have endured continuous suffering over the last few years. Another massacre should be prevented at all costs.”
The PES supports the EU and the UN in their efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Yarmouk, and calls for a coordinated international effort to guarantee the safety of innocent civilians residing in the area.
