PES President Sergei Stanishev stated: “Today’s vote represents a highly significant step on the road to peace between Israel and Palestine. The resolution, brought forth by the PES family, could have been stronger in its propositions, but its passing by a large majority in the EU Parliament mirrors the true sentiment of the European public opinion for a two-state solution. It is time for the region to renew the dialogue interrupted by extremists and violence, and it is time for Europe to play the positive role to which our High Representative Federica Mogherini has already brought great commitment”.
A PES delegation led by Deputy Secretary General Giacomo Filibeck visited Israel and Palestine earlier this month. During the visit, Giacomo Filibeck said: “The EU High Representative Federica Mogherini needs our support in shaping a European effective policy for a comprehensive settlement in the whole region”.
