EU Summits and the Council of the EU

The European Council is presided by António Costa, former Prime Minister of Portugal.

Many national governments of the 27 member states of the EU are run by socialists and democrats, alone or in coalition with other political parties. PES heads of state and government attend EU summits in the Council, in Brussels. Their national ministers have monthly meetings, too. The PES works to coordinate positions within our political family prior to these important meetings to strengthen our common push for a more progressive Europe.

European Committee of the Regions

Members of our political family sit in the European Committee of the Regions, a consultation body to the EU where local and regional governments are represented. The President of the European Committee of the Regions is socialist Vasco Alves Cordeiro.

Christophe Rouillon is the President of the PES Group in the Committee of the Regions.
