SDPS is already an associate member of the PES. The PES Presidency has now granted an upgrade to full membership, giving the party an equal voice at the table alongside 33 other European socialist, social democrat and progressive parties from the EU and Norway.
PES president Sergei Stanishev said:
“I am delighted to welcome ‘Concord’ as the thirty-fourth full member of the PES family. With their progressive political programme at both national and European level, their membership will strengthen our progressive family still further.
“I look forward to cooperating closely with SDPS in the future.”
In the same meeting, members of the PES Presidency also finalised arrangements for next week’s annual PES Council in Lisbon, Portugal, where hundreds of activists, journalists, party leaders and politicians will gather under the title ‘Progressive Europe: Renewal’.
