PES President Sergei Stanishev congratulated Labour leader Jonas Gahr Støre, who is now set to become prime minister:
“I want to congratulate Jonas for his very successful campaign building on the great tradition of the Norwegian Labour Party, a founding member of the PES. We welcome the Norwegian people’s mandate to pursue progressive policies to build a prosperous, egalitarian, open and environmentally sustainable society, under a labour-led administration. Norway and its welfare state are a model for our political family.”
According to exit polls, DNA has won the election after emerging as the largest party. It has secured 48 out of the 85 seats needed for a majority in the Norwegian parliament and is set to lead the next government.
A former foreign minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre has led the Norwegian Labour Party since 2014. DNA is a full member of the PES and a regular contributor to our policy discussions, documents, and actions. We look forward to continuing and strengthening this cooperation.
