PES President Sergei Stanishev said:
“European socialists and democrats welcome Dimitar Kovachevski as the new prime minister of North Macedonia. As leader of the government and of the PES associated member party SDSM I am sure he will continue to the lead the country on the progressive European path, as his predecessor Zoran Zaev did.
"Outgoing prime minister Zaev, with his team and minister Shekerinska, made historic progress for North Macedonia and for the European perspective on the Western Balkans. The PES thanks them for their invaluable leadership and tireless work to make North Macedonia fairer, more prosperous, and more democratic.
"The PES will continue to give its support to the efforts of SDSM to safeguard democracy, social justice and European values in North Macedonia."
Dimitar Kovachevski, 47, was a deputy finance minister in the previous socialist government, led by Zoran Zaev. It secured North Macedonia’s membership in NATO and achieved significant progress in the EU accession process for the country.
