The law is an absurd limitation of the freedom of speech and is deeply offensive to the victims of the Holocaust.
PES president Sergei Stanishev said:
“Legislating about the truth is not any government’s business, and threatening a prison sentence potentially to anyone who refers to particular episodes of the Holocaust on Polish soil is utterly offensive to the survivors and to the memory of the victims.
“The Polish government is irresponsibly playing the nationalist card. So far, it has only achieved division and discredit. Rewriting history never works. We therefore call on the government majority to withdraw this law.”
