This pardon contributes to the repair of the fractures created by the separatist movement in the Catalan society. The support from a wide range of organisations, networks and individuals for this decision shows that PSOE and PSC’s political proposal based on dialogue and within the Rule of Law has been the right one since the start of the territorial crisis. However, some political forces in Spain and Catalonia have irresponsibly called against this political approach, which has been supported by the majority of citizens over the last elections in Spain and Catalonia. We deplore these political parties’ thoughtless reactions, which pursue a continuation of conflict for electoral purposes, rather than finding an end to it.
Without any doubt, these pardons are of public interest for the Catalan society, and they will bring a new time of concord. We are sure that this step forward will boost the political dialogue within the Constitutional order. The PES encourages all the political and social actors to contribute to this political dialogue that will ensure a modern, plural and tolerant Catalonia, taking its rightful place in Spain, and contributing together for a stronger Europe.
