PES president Sergei Stanishev said:
“Germany needs a leader who is concerned about inequalities and the redistribution of wealth, and who has clear progressive instincts. In short, Germany needs Martin Schulz and the SPD.
“Only an SPD-led government will make sure that workers get decent pay and working conditions, pensioners get their fair share and that children from a poor background have access to quality public schooling. They are the ones who won a minimum wage for all Germans and who had same-sex marriage approved. Conservatives didn’t care about any of that.”
The German general election will also help to define the future of Europe, Mr Stanishev said.
“Germany is the most populated country in the EU and a founding member of the Union. We need a committed pro-European leadership for Germany. Clearly our friend Martin Schulz is the best option, not only because he has dedicated his life to defending the EU but because he believes in solidarity.”
