As socialists and social democrats, we are committed to leaving nobody behind. We defend the values of our Union and fight for upwards social convergence, from the biggest city to rural areas and the most remote regions. To achieve this, Cohesion Policy requires a clear and future-fit mandate, maintaining its key principles.

This vision for ambitious Cohesion Policy post-2027 is the focus of a PES declaration published today and signed by high-level socialists and democrats in national governments, the European Parliament and the European Committee of the Regions.

The call – which sets out ten priorities for a clear and future-fit mandate, building on key principles – can be read in full on the PES website.

At the same time, a joint opinion piece focused on socialist and social democratic demands for Cohesion Policy is published today in Euractiv.

The declaration – A Cohesion Policy post-2027 for Upwards Social Convergence – is signed by:

  • Piret Hartman, Minister of Regional Affairs and Agriculture, Estonia
  • Michael Falzon, Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, Malta
  • Adrian Câciu, Minister for Investments and European Projects, Romania
