Sergei Stanishev said: “I strongly support Minister Schmit’s and the PES Employment and Social Affairs Ministers’ initiative. We urgently need to take action at European level to protect labour rights and standards of mobile workers. Reforming the Posting of Workers Directive as proposed by the PES ministers would be a big step forward. The current rules leave too many loopholes that can lead to exploitation of mobile workers and lowering of labour standards, including wage”.
In its work program for 2015, the European Commission announced its intentions to launch a ‘targeted review’ of the Posting of Workers Directive. In his open letter, Minister Schmit calls on the Commission to make sure that the ‘targeted review’ will result in an ambitious revision of the Posting of Workers Directive.
