MEPs on the Employment & Social Affairs Committee adopted a report which calls for posted workers (those temporarily working in another EU country) to be treated the same as local workers when it comes to pay, allowances and bonuses.
The report will now be debated in a full plenary session of Parliament and by national governments in the Council of Ministers. If approved by both, the reform will become law.
Commenting on the vote, PES president Sergei Stanishev said:
“This is only one step in the fight to fix the rules for posted workers. Nonetheless, it is an important one, laying the groundwork for a Europe that protects workers and guarantees fair competition across the single market.
“Under these reforms, collective agreements on pay and conditions will apply to posted workers – meaning we will finally reach the goal of equal pay for equal work at the same workplace.
“We will continue to monitor developments closely as part of our wider campaign for a more social Europe.”
