During the meeting, the Commissioner-designate reiterated her intention to help the less economically developed countries in the Union. Corina Cretu confirmed that her efforts if elected as Commissioner will be to provide assistance to Member States to utilize most effectively the funds from the previous program period until the end of next year and to negotiate good programmes for the next decade which can help the real economy and contribute to a successful EU crisis exit strategy .
Stanishev wished Cretu good luck in the difficult task of working to reduce the economic disparities between regions in Europe.
