The Party of European Socialists (PES) joined its member party PSOE at Spanish Pride, Europe’s largest event. More than 2 million people participated in the Madrid agenda from 28 June to 7 July.

By standing alongside PSOE at the Madrid Pride, the PES reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the ongoing battle for the rights and protection of LGBTI+ individuals. This dedication was also evident at the EuroPride 2024 in Thessaloniki, where the PES co-hosted the 7th Pride forum with Rainbow Rose.

This year, the PES will campaign during Madrid Pride under the motto “Educating in Diversity,” which aligns with the Pride slogan: “Education, rights and peace: Pride that transforms.”

As usual, during Madrid Pride 2024, the PES, its LGTBI organization Rainbow Rose, and PSOE will pay respect to all progressive LGTBI organizations and to the women and men activists who, with their commitment, bravery, and energy, continue to work in Spain and throughout Europe for a society free of discrimination or exclusion due to sexual orientation, gender identity, or sexual characteristics.

President of the S&D group in the European Parliament and First Vice-President of the PES Iratxe Garcia said:

“During recent years, we have witnessed with concern the approval of openly anti-LGTBIQ+ legislation in some EU Member States.  As a European socialist family, we have always defended and will continue to defend all human rights. We will continue our fight to implement all requirements in the Charter of fundamental rights of the European Union in all member states.”

As part of the Madrid pride program, the PES organised a round Table in the Spanish Parliament on Friday on the topic “Pride that transforms: the Spanish experience looking at Europe and beyond.” The round table was followed by a reception and working dinner hosted by PES and PSOE, where elected officials from the PES family and members of the delegation, LGBTI Activists, and PSOE members met.
