PS won the elections, maintaining its position as the largest force in local government. The party secured 148 mayoral races across the country.
PES President Sergei Stanishev said:
“We welcome the news that voters have again placed their trust in Partido Socialista. In cities large and small, in communes in every corner of the country, socialists have secured great victories. I congratulate Prime Minister António Costa and PS on their successful campaign, and this clear election victory.
“Socialism begins with the people. Our movement has always focused on connecting with communities, listening to what matters to them, and delivering for people on the local level. We are the ones who understand the value of investing in public services, sustainable transport, infrastructure, and so much more. Local government is strongest with socialism. This is the verdict of the Portuguese people.”
