The Party of European Socialists is thrilled by the great result, achieved by PSOE in the Spanish general election last Sunday. The Spanish socialists got 31,70% of the votes, which is the party’s best result since 2008 and was achieved in a challenging context, determined by polarisation and disinformation.
PES president Stefan Löfven said:
Both Pedro Sánchez and PSOE should be praised for the election result, as they managed to safeguard democracy and progress in Spain. They have garnered renewed support for the strong social measures implemented during their last mandate.
The whole PES family warmly congratulates our full member party PSOE and its leader for what they have achieved. It is now clear that the far right was rejected by the voters in Spain, and this is a good sign for the country and for Europe. ¡Adelante!
European Socialists and democrats expressed their full support to PSOE ahead of the election and are now confident, that the far-right threats to democracy, equality, and progress in Spain and in Europe will be averted.
