PES President Sergei Stanishev said: “We must show that our alternative policies are more relevant than ever and that we are committed to lead change in Europe now, following the adoption of the ‘PES Roadmap following the UK referendum – A New Agenda for Europe 2016-2019’ a starting point for PES setting out its new and ambitious plans for Europe.”
“Europe after Brexit is our common challenge. Today we launched a process of broad consultations, which aims to generate an in-depth debate and action throughout the PES family – among our member parties, our party representatives, the S&D group, our MPs, MEPs, activists, the Young European Socialists, PES Women, the Foundation for European Progressive Studies and the Committee of the Regions. And this debate and consultation must lead to us to set out our vision of a future Europe, which is to be discussed during the PES Council in December 2016 in Prague”, Stanishev added.
The leaders from the Social-Democratic family expressed once again their support for the European Youth Plan. They acknowledged that the young generation is more and more detached from politics and that progressives should be the one to bring the youth back in the game.
Furthermore, the participants also discussed the refugee crisis prior to the PES international conference on migration, which is scheduled to take place in Paris tomorrow (8th of July).
