The Party of European Socialists (PES) takes note of the recent discussions on the future of Ukraine. For the PES, the priority is clear: to have a united Europe to secure a just and lasting peace that safeguards Ukraine’s sovereignty and Europe’s vital security interests.
PES President Stefan Löfven said:
“Ukraine must have credible security guarantees – and Europe must stand united with Ukraine. Putin has not changed his course; he has simply been brought back onto the stage. For us, as Europeans, the message must be clear: The European Union must stand united, together with our partners, in defending Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and the right of its people to decide their future.”
European unity must now translate into concrete action: ensuring credible security guarantees to deter further Russian aggression, and strengthening transatlantic cooperation.
No aggressor can be rewarded. No autocrat can decide the future of Europe.
