PES President Sergei Stanishev said:

They worked relentlessly to safeguard the sentiment of unity for the country, demonstrating the sound judgement needed when choosing the presidency of the republic – the highest figure for Italian citizens, political institutions and international partners.”
President Sergio Mattarella was re-elected for a second seven-year term by parliament yesterday evening in the eighth round of voting.
