The letter from Ms. Hontiveros outlined that Haiyan had been the worst typhoon to hit the world in recent memory, and has devastated the Eastern Philippines on 9 November 2013. 36 municipalities and over 9 million individuals are affected, with over 10,000 fatalities.
SOLIDAR, partner of the PES, launched a call for humanitarian solidarity. SOLIDAR has decided to support its partner LEARN; an NGO or non-government organization in the Philippines that provides various services primarily to workers, both from the private and public sectors or formal and informal labour. And a mission has been deployed to the Central Visayas areas – which bore the brunt of the eye of the typhoon – to explore the needed actions.
