PES president Sergei Stanishev said: “The Paris Agreement was the first truly global and truly binding agreement to cap global CO2 emissions. Our political family didn’t only support it but led the way, through the great work of president Hollande and through our input ahead of the Paris Climate Convention, with our 21 pledges for COP21. We trust the leadership of the EU and the good work of other global players, notably China, for the international community to implement the Paris Agreement despite this setback”.
“Addressing the Climate Change is a matter of responsibility and leadership. If none is to be found in the White House, the rest of the world will have to make up for it. The European progressives will be on the right side of history”.
In Europe the PES is working in close dialogue with the social partners on a job-rich just transition towards economies based on clean energies. We want to make the European model an example to be followed world-wide, including the United States.
