“It is up to us to really transform migration – often perceived as a problem – into an opportunity for all involved”, said the PES President.
Mr Stanishev outlined the building blocks of a progressive European migration and asylum policy, including the absolute need to protect lives, the need to fully implement the common European Asylum System, and the importance of stronger cooperation with third countries. Mr Stanishev also underlined that migration is a tremendous opportunity for Europe that we must harness with a coherent and structured system of legal migration, and far reaching integration policies.
