PES President Sergei Stanishev said: “We welcome this new Foreign and Security Strategy as its aims at building the tools to address problems of a global nature in a more integrated manner.
You can’t fight a big fire with a fire hose that is cut in 27 pieces, it just won’t work. We now are learning that terrorism is global and that we all are potential victims, from Paris to Istanbul, from Brussels to Orlando, from Dalori to Lahore. And more importantly we in Europe can’t expect others to provide for our security. We have to take the lead”.
The PES believes that the new strategy will improve the EU’s reactivity to face global crises. Sergei Stanishev said: “We now have a window of opportunity for more strategic integration and we should use it. Europe must be efficient in fighting terrorism, inside and outside its borders, we must manage a very volatile neighborhood and we must do all of this in a multilateral world. The initiative and the efforts of HR/VP Federica Mogherini to bring forward the Strategy developed with all the member states is welcomed as a cornerstone for the partnership in the Union in this particular moment. Our citizens deserve a united leadership that will be able to address the current global challenges effectively.
HR/VP Mogherini presented the core of the Strategy at the PES European Council Preparation meeting in Brussels on the 28th of June in front of the Prime Ministers and Leaders form the PES family.
