Yitzhak Rabin was a great leader, who saw the primacy of peace between Israel the Palestinians. For him, peace between the two people was fundamental for well-being, prosperity, and for the human rights of both peoples. That he was shot at a peace rally, only reinforces the tragic nature of his death.
Sergei Stanishev, President of the Party of European Socialists said: ‘The death of Yitzhak Rabin had an immeasurable impact on the peoples of Israel and Palestine. The impact is still felt today, with violence and anger reigning on the streets of Israel and in the West Bank, peace still seems a sadly distant prospect.’
‘As European Socialists and Democrats we are determined that a just peace shall be achieved in the Middle East. Next to all the of the many good reasons why, this should also be done to honour the memory of Yitzhak Rabin, and remember this great statesman.’
