This latest assault was one of many similar incidents in Afyon, Ankara and Konya provinces in the country lately.
PES president Stanishev said:
“We condemn this ethnically motivated horrible act against the Kurdish minority in Turkey. The Turkish authorities must do everything to find and prosecute the perpetrators and to put the ethnic crimes against Kurds to an end. We stand in solidarity with the victims and with our friends from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), who are defending the civil rights of Kurds in Turkey.”
The latest of this ethnically motivated attacks was against the Dedeoğulları family, 7 of which were killed in their own residence at around 7 p.m. local time (4 p.m. GMT) on 30 of July. Protests against the horrible act took place across Turkey the next day.
Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu rejected claims that the attack was racially motivated, which creates a dangerous precedent. The Party of European Socialists will follow closely the investigation. We call the authorities in Turkey not to allow police brutality against the peaceful protesters in the days after the latest hate crimes.
