Iratxe García Pérez, President of the S&D Group and Member of the European Parliament
Iratxe García Pérez is a politician of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE). She has served as a Member of the European Parliament since 2004 and is the Leader of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats parliamentary group since June 2019. She is also First Vice-President of the Party of the European Socialists since December 2018, re-elected in 2022, and a Member of the Federal Executive Committee of the PSOE.
García Pérez has served in Committees working on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality, Regional Development, Agriculture and Rural Development and on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, and in the Delegations for relations with the Arab Peninsula, with India and to the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly among others. She is a member of the European Parliament Intergroups on Disability, on LGBT Rights and on the Western Sahara, among others. She was chairwoman of the European Parliament Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality from July 2014 to January 2017. She was a also a Member of Member of the Spanish National Parliament from 2000 to 2004 and of the Valladolid Provincial Parliament from 1996 to 2000.
