European Unequal Pay Day 2019: PES Women call on the first female Commission President to close the gender pay gap
Today, on European Unequal Pay Day, PES Women is calling on the incoming Commission President to finally close the gender pay gap. The PES member organisation – which fights for female empowerment and gender equality – has mounted a campaign to end pay discrimination, and has sent a specially designed campaign postcard to Ursula von der Leyen.
Twitter’s ban of political ads is good for democracy
The Party of European Socialists welcomes the move by Twitter to ban all political advertising from its feed in order to protect the integrity of public discussion. The PES believes all political parties must be able to pitch their ideas to the public and engage in meaningful conversation, without distortion from big money.
Decision to overlook North Macedonia and Albania is a deep disappointment
The European Council’s failure to green-light accession talks with North Macedonia and Albania is deeply disappointing and a missed opportunity for Europe, the Party of European Socialists (PES) said today. The European Socialists have been a long-standing ally of the two countries as they have attempted to begin the European integration process.
