Socialist European Affairs Ministers expressed their strong concern about the complete lack of progress of the Polish government to conform to the rule of law, just one week after the vote in the European Parliament to activate article 7 (1) for Hungary. The Ministers met in Brussels today, where they also exchanged views on migration on the eve of the informal leaders’ meeting.

The PES Campaign Academy that will train activists to campaign for European social democracy in the next EU election was launched in Brussels today. 40 activists from across Europe will learn campaigning techniques and strategies to campaign around the PES common candidate and the PES manifesto, under the coordination of PES Deputy Secretary General Marije Laffeber.

The Party of European Socialists welcomes the vote in the European Parliament today which saw MEPs voting to trigger Article 7 (1) of the EU Treaty with 448 votes in favour and 197 against. The procedure is used in cases of serious breach of the values on which the Union is founded and could see Hungary’s voting rights in the Council suspended.
