Polish Constitutional Tribunal ruling: European Commission must act immediately to protect the Rule of Law in the EU
The Party of European Socialists (PES) is extremely worried by the recent ruling issued by the Polish Constitutional Tribunal which declares the most fundamental provisions of the EU Treaties (art. 1 and 19 TEU) as unconstitutional and declines the primacy of European law over national law.
PES calls for progress on European future for the Western Balkans
Today’s European Council must send a clear message of support for the European perspective for the Western Balkans region. The enlargement process must be credible and consistent, prime ministers and leaders from the Party of European Socialists and its sister parties from the region agreed today in Slovenia.

The Party of European Socialists warmly welcomes the successful municipal election result obtained by Partito Democratico in Italy, as well as Enrico Letta’s victory in the by-election in Siena. The overall result strengthens the PD and the centre-left and constitutes a serious blow for the far-right.
PES calls for global push for tax justice after Pandora Papers revelations
The Party of European Socialists in the light of the latest revelations of tax avoidance uncovered by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in the leaked ‘Pandora Papers,’ calls to further advance global cooperation for tax justice. The documents reveal the use of complex schemes and shell companies to divert profits to no tax jurisdictions.
