Speaking from Brussels, PES General Secretary Achim Post stated that; “the PES sends the warmest congratulations to the BSP on the formation of the new Government in Bulgaria. Plamen Oresharski becomes the tenth PES head of State or Government in the European Council. It is becoming increasingly clear that the people of Europe are convinced that the future political direction of Europe must be built on progressive values and fairness”.
Mr. Post added that; “it gives me particular pleasure to congratulate the leader of BSP, Sergei Stanishev, who is of course, also leader of the PES. This new Government will give Bulgaria the chance to rebuild based on the three pillars of democracy, economic growth and social justice”.
Speaking from Sofia, PES President Sergei Stanishev expressed his thanks for all the messages of support and said that; “this new Government gives Bulgaria a real chance for progressive reconstruction. We can start the process of rehabilitating both the instruments and the institutions of the Bulgarian state. This new Government will be one with an irreproachable sense of integrity, responsibility and urgency”.
The PES also congratulated the newly appointed Foreign Minister, Kristian Vigenin. Mr. Vigenin, who is an MEP, is also member of the PES Presidency.
