The Party of European Socialists is deeply saddened to learn about the death of Henri Nallet, a former Vice President of the PES and a committed progressive intellectual, who passed this week at the age of 85. A minister of agriculture under President François Mitterrand and Prime Minister Michel Rocard, and a minister of Justice under Prime Minister Édith Cresson, he tirelessly fought for social cohesion and European unity. He was a Vice President of the PES from 1997 to 2001.

PES President Stefan Löfven said:

“I am profoundly saddened about the death of Henri: a true socialist, one of us. Henri devoted his life to social cohesion and social justice. Throughout his political career, he anticipated many of the challenges we now face, both in France and in Europe, where he was active as a Vice President of the PES. His kindness and sharp intellect will be very much missed. In the name of the entire socialist family, I want to send his wife Thérèse and his son Vincent our deepest condolences.”
