“I strongly condemn the statements made by Traian Basescu on Romanian television show ‘Jocuri de putere’, which were provocative and inflammatory, and have no place in a modern democracy. Basescu’s threats call into question his respect for proper political and legal process. Suggesting that a fellow politician’s husband might ‘go missing’ is beyond the realms of decency and there is no place for such comments in Romania and in the European Union.”
