The Party of European Socialists invites you to join the PES Democracy and  Society Network Conference on 21-22 November in Vienna

The PES Democracy and Society network was created in 2013 with the aim of strengthening freedom, equality, solidarity, justice, democracy and the rule of law in Europe, together with PES member parties, on the regional, national and European level.

The conference will be structured around two sessions during two days.

Friday 21 November: A  public debate, “My Democracy Matters. How to protect it?” from 2pm  to focus on how to enhance democracy, how to protect it, the rule of law and our fundamental rights.

Speakers

Keynote speaker will be Andreas Schieder, chairman of the SPÖ parliamentary group, Austria.

S&D Vice-Presidents Jörg Liechtfried and Marju Lauristin, PES Democracy Network chair and S&D Vice President Tanja Fajon and PES Deputy Secretary General Marije Laffeber will attend the event as speakers.

Khalid Chaouki, Deputy of the Italian Democratic Party, immigration coordinator, President  Cultural Commission Parliamentary Assembly, Union for Mediterranean/PA-UfM and National representative of the “New Italians” group of the PD; Aurelien Mazuy, President of Rainbow Rose; Sonja Lokar, CEE Gender Network Executive Director; Conny Reuter, Secretary General SOLIDAR.

The public debate will be opened by the book launch of “Problems for Representative Democracy in Europe: A challenge for progressives”, a result of the two years research project ‘Enhancing Democracy pre and post EU enlargement’ of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), the European Forum for Democracy and Solidarity (EFDS) and the Karl-Renner-Institut.
