After studying media and information law at the University of Amsterdam, she started her career in 1999 as a journalist at a local TV station before becoming press secretary of AFC Ajax Football club. In 2007, she moved to the world of politics and worked as the spokesperson and political strategist for the leadership of the Dutch Labour party PvdA. Between 2014 and 2019, Van Bueren was Member of Cabinet of First Vice President Frans Timmermans in the Juncker Commission, where she served as his political and communication advisor. During the European elections of 2019 she was – together with Giacomo Filibeck – Campaign Manager of the PES (spitzenkandidat) campaign. Since June 2020 Saar van Bueren had been working at PES as advisor in political strategy and communication.
