The PES stands strongly for the Rule of Law in the EU. Bringing charges before an independent court, and a fair trial, are central elements to the Rule of Law.
Today PES President Sergei Stanishev had an online meeting with Robert Fico to address the situation. In the meeting, Mr. Fico underlined that he is fully available and committed to cooperate with any legal investigation.
Sergei Stanishev and Robert Fico agreed it would be seriously concerning if Mr. Fico were to be arrested and remain detained without substantial charges before an independent court. Tomorrow the PES Presidency will address the situation in Slovakia at its regular meeting.
