The PES strongly condemns the Trump administration’s decision to impose sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC).
PES President Stefan Löfven says:
“Justice cannot depend on who holds power. No country, no leader, and no government has the right to be above international law. These sanctions threaten the independence of the ICC and its ability to deliver justice to victims of the gravest crimes. Defending the ICC is ultimately about defending the fundamental values of decency and justice upon which our civilisation is built. Europe must stand firm, defend the Court, and ensure it can continue its work without intimidation.”
The PES stands alongside the European Union in its commitment to defending the independence of the ICC, international justice, accountability, and the rule of law.
