PES: We stand by the BSP in its commitment to the Eurozone

BSP Leader Atanas Zafirov during his speech at the PES European Council preparation meeting in March in Brussels.

The PES supports BSP–United Left in its consistent efforts to advance European integration and secure Bulgaria’s accession to the Eurozone.

The decision by Bulgarian President Radev to submit a referendum request to Parliament, just few weeks before Bulgaria is due to receive its extraordinary convergence report, which risks delaying the introduction of the euro, is regrettable.

We support BSP–United Left’s strong commitment to upholding the rule of law and democracy, including its clear stance in Parliament to declare the referendum promoted by the President as inadmissible, in line with the decision of the Constitutional Court.

PES Secretary General Giacomo Filibeck said:

In these times of heightened geopolitical challenges, responsibility is paramount. Bulgaria should stay firmly committed to deeper European integration. We commend BSP–United Left for its responsible political leadership in defending European values, upholding the rule of law, and advancing Bulgaria’s path toward the euro – a step that brings clear benefits not only to the country, its citizens, and its economy, but also to the European Union as a whole.”

Bulgaria’s membership in the Eurozone will deepen European integration and deliver substantial economic benefits to Bulgarian citizens and industries. We firmly reject any attempts to spread fear or undermine this important process.

We stand with BSP in its unwavering dedication to ensuring that Bulgaria takes its rightful place in the Eurozone.
