Today, the Party of European Socialists Migration & Integration Network (MiN) held its first meeting of the year. The event was held in hybrid format in Brussels and was chaired by S&D MEP Ana Catarina Mendes from PS Portugal.

Representatives of PES member parties, members of the European Parliament, and civil society organisations exchanged views on the proposal for a new Return regulation and a new proposal on the Safe Third Country concept by the European Commission

MEP Ana Catarina Mendes chair of the MiN meeting said:

“As we shape a common EU policy on return and readmission, it is paramount that EU and international law, fundamental rights, and effective voluntary return with sustainable reintegration are fully respected.

Proposals on safe third countries must ensure that the right to asylum is respected and upheld.  We reject any deals that externalise our responsibilities, that subsidise dictatorships or do not safeguard human rights.’’
