The Party of European Socialists stands behind the resolution adopted today by the European Parliament demanding the liberation of Selahattin Demirtaş – a Kurdish opposition leader who has been held in prison in Turkey since 2016. Demirtas is the former co-chair of the PES-associate pro-Kurdish party HDP (People’s Democratic Party).

Vaccine rollout must remain a priority for the EU, Europe ministers from the PES said today as they assessed the COVID-19 situation in Europe and agreed that regular coordination discussions are necessary. Member States need transparent national vaccine strategies so citizens can have confidence in the process and progress across Europe can be determined.
