Congratulations, Anthony Albanese and Labour Australia

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese (C), partner Jodie Haydon (R), and his son Nathan (L) celebrate at the Labour Election Night.

The PES congratulates the Australian Labour Party on winning the country’s federal elections and gaining a majority in the Parliament. The party leader, Anthony Albanese, will continue as Prime Minister of the Pacific nation after a successful previous mandate.
PES President Stefan Löfven said:

“On behalf of our political family, I would like to congratulate the Australian Labour Party on their great victory. This results from relentlessly following progressive policies and governing in the name of your citizens. Good Job, Labour!
I would like to congratulate Anthony Albanese, who claimed a historic second term as prime minister, and I wish him an even more successful second mandate.”

In March this year, PES Secretary General Giacomo Filibeck met with the National Secretary of the Australian Labour Party, Paul Erickson, at the party’s campaign headquarters and reconfirmed the full support of the PES and our commitment to work together and to strengthen progressive cooperation at the global level.

According to the polls, the Australian Labour Party’s seat count is expected to reach 85, which is way above the 76 seats needed for a complete majority. The Party is the oldest political party in Australia and among the oldest continuous Labour parties in the world.
