The Party of European Socialists (PES) commends Pedro Sánchez on securing parliamentary support to lead a new progressive government after his investiture as Prime Minister today. Sánchez and PSOE will lead a left-wing coalition government.

PES President Stefan Löfven said:

“I congratulate Pedro Sánchez on his very successful election campaign, carried out in very hostile circumstances, and on his investiture as the new Prime Minister for the next term. Pedro embodies the fight of European Socialists for decent jobs, for feminism, for sustainability, for democracy. Today, these values are being challenged by reactionary forces. And we stand ready to protect them.”

Last weekend European Socialists gathered in Málaga, hosted by PSOE, for the 2023 PES Congress, where PES heads of state and government, leaders, activists, and supporters from across Europe met for two days of intense discussions only months ahead of the European elections.
