PES Secretary General in India: Global challenges require global responses

Participants at the Progressive Alliance Delivering Global Justice Conference in Hyderabad.

PES Secretary General Giacomo Filibeck joined progressive leaders from around the world at the Progressive Alliance Conference this weekend in Hyderabad, India.

The PES praises the leadership of the Indian National Congress, Rahul Gandhi and we underline our willingness to work together. Leaders and high-level representatives from more than 100 progressive parties and organisations worldwide attended the event in a display of unity, working together to achieve global justice and holding a strategic discussion on topics such as deepening inequalities, threats to climate action, and the rise of individuals promoting far-right and autocratic ideology, eroding the pillars of our democratic institutions.

Speaking on Saturday’s panel on “Global Justice”, PES Secretary General Giacomo Filibeck said:

‘‘Taking a page from the history of my own country, we commemorated yesterday the 80th anniversary of our liberation day from nazi-fascism, an ideology that brought Italy and Europe to ruin in the pursuit of hate, a stark reminder of the threat we face. We need to stand together, globally as progressives against all current threats to our democracies, our citizens and our societies.
As we mourn the death of Pope Francis, we hope that the many government leaders attending the funeral in these hours will finally understand his unwavering commitment to promoting human dignity through justice and peace.
At the Party of European Socialists, we are convinced that by joining forces with parties like the Indian National Congress and inspiring leaders like Rahul Gandhi, progressive movements around the world will make their message heard louder and stronger, pushing back radical right-wing parties and their agenda of division and discrimination.”
