The Party of European Socialists (PES) warmly congratulates Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and the Danish Social Democrats on successfully forming a new coalition government, securing a third term in office.

Following the re-election of Robert Abela in Malta, the successful formation of a new government by Mette Frederiksen in Denmark marks a second consecutive confirmation of public trust in progressive leadership across Europe.

At a time when political fragmentation and uncertainty are challenging democracies across the continent, these developments demonstrate that citizens continue to place their confidence in leaders who deliver stability, fairness, and responsible government.

Mette Frederiksen’s success in bringing together coalition partners around a common programme reflects determined leadership, political resilience, and a commitment to democratic dialogue. Throughout the negotiations, she remained focused on building a government capable of addressing the challenges facing Danish citizens, from the cost of living and social welfare to security, climate action, and the protection of democratic values.

As Europe faces growing geopolitical uncertainty, Denmark’s continued commitment to European cooperation, and a strong social model remains of great importance. Under Mette Frederiksen’s leadership, Denmark has demonstrated that progressive politics can combine economic responsibility, social justice, and democratic resilience.

PES President Stefan Löfven said:

“I warmly congratulate Mette Frederiksen on successfully forming a new government and beginning a third term as Prime Minister of Denmark.

This is another important confirmation that citizens continue to place their trust in progressive leadership that delivers security, fairness, and opportunity.

Together with the recent victory of Robert Abela in Malta, this demonstrates that social democrats remain a strong and trusted force across Europe. At a time of uncertainty and division, progressive governments continue to provide stability, protect democratic values and deliver for people.”

PES looks forward to continuing its close cooperation with Prime Minister Frederiksen, the Danish Social Democrats, and the new coalition government in advancing a fairer, greener, and more resilient Europe for all.
